Joubert syndrome (JBTS), discovered in 1969, is a rare and serious disorder present at birth. The gene CPLANE1was identified as a cause of JBTS in some families. When certain shortened forms of CPLANE1are present, it leads to oral-facial-digital syndrome type VI and causes severe symptoms, often resulting in early death.
