Common features are: unsteady walking and balance problems, stiffness of the legs, and reduced sense of position and vibration in the legs (walking in the dark is often extra difficult). Some people develop tremor, seizures or learning difficulties, mainly in the forms that start early in life. In most people who become symptomatic in their teens, the condition progresses very slowly and many remain able to walk for a long time, sometimes with aids.
