There is no cure yet for DGKEnephropathy. Treatment focuses on protecting the kidneys, controlling blood pressure, and treating problems quickly during flare-ups.
A child with DGKEnephropathy may need:
• Regular urine and blood tests
• Blood pressure checks
• Medicines to lower blood pressure and reduce protein in the urine
• Hospital care during severe flare-ups
• Dialysis if the kidneys stop working well enough
• A kidney transplant if kidney failure develops
Some children are first treated as though they have another type of aHUS while doctors are still looking for the cause. Genetic testing is very important because it helps doctors confirm that the disease is caused by DGKEand decide which treatments are most likely to help. Some of these treatment options used for other types of aHUS (like complement-blocking medications) are unlikely to work well in this condition.
