Genes are the body’s instruction book. The DGKEgene helps certain cells in the kidney work properly. When both copies of this gene are not working, the kidney’s filters and small blood vessels can be damaged more easily.
Most children with this condition inherited:
• One changed DGKEgene from their mother
• One changed DGKEgene from their father
Parents usually do not have the disease themselves because they still have one working copy. Genetic testing can confirm the diagnosis and may help with family planning and care.
