Certain changes in the EIF2S3 gene cause MEHMO syndrome [Mental disability, Epileptic seizure, Hypogonadism/Hypogenitalism, Microcephaly, Obesity; OMIM #300148). This is a very rare condition for which only affected male individuals have been reported so far. Not all individuals with a mutation in the gene have all these features.
