Genetic defects in IPO8cause an autosomal recessive connective tissue disorder most prominently characterized by abnormal enlargement of the thoracic aorta. Epidemiological studies as well as natural history studies are currently lacking, hampering reliable estimation of the disease frequency and hindering comprehensive genetic counselling.
