This gene is associated with learning difficulties in boys. The gene lies on the X chromosome at position Xp22.1. Males have just one copy of this gene. They inherit that gene from their mother. A disease-causing difference in that gene may be passed from their carrier mother or may arise as a new genetic difference in the affected boy. So far only a handful of people have been reported with differences in this gene.
