Main clinical features
RP2-associated retinitis pigmentosa is a severe, X-linked form of retinal dystrophy characterized by childhood onset and rapid loss of visual function and early macular involvement.
Prevalence
RP is the most common retinal dystrophy with a prevalence of 1 in 4,000. Within this group, X-linked RP (XLRP) accounts for 5–15% of all cases, with mutations in the RP2gene being responsible for 10–15 % of XLRP cases. RP2-RP has an estimated prevalence of roughly 1 in 150,000 to 1 in 400,000 individuals.
Inheritance
RP2-associated retinitis pigmentosa follows an X-linked inheritance pattern.
