Primary microcephaly is a rare genetic condition where a baby is born with a smaller-than-normal head due to abnormal brain development. It causes mild to moderate intellectual disability, but motor skills are often less affected. Seizures are uncommon.

It is inherited in an autosomal recessive pattern and is more frequent in regions with higher rates of consanguinity (e.g., Pakistan, Middle East). The condition is non-progressive, meaning it does not worsen over time.

With early therapy and educational support, many children can learn skills and lead fulfilling lives. Care focuses on developmental support and regular monitoring.
