PhenomeGene — Human Disease Gene Website SeriesPLCB1

Molecular characteristics

PLCB1is a gene that makes a protein used by brain cells to send signals. In affected children, both copies of the gene usually do not work properly, which is called a biallelic loss-of-function change. This can happen because of deletions or spelling changes in the gene. The faulty gene affects how brain cells work and can lead to early severe epilepsy.
