BFIS generally responds well to many different types of seizure medications. Since most children with BFIS don’t continue to have seizures as adults, doctors can often stop the medication after the child has been seizure-free for 6 to 12 months. About 40% of kids with BFIS may later develop PKD as they get older.
To manage these conditions, it’s important to avoid things that can trigger episodes, like certain quick movements. In addition, a variety of seizure medications can be helpful, especially those that block sodium channels in the brain.
