The condition can affect many different organs, but not all patients have all of the symptoms. In children, PHTS causes a large head , developmental delay in two-thirds of the patients, learning difficulties, intellectual disability or autism in 30-70%. Skin changes frequently appear over time, with spots or growths. The thyroid gland may change in shape or structure in both children and adults. An increased chance of developing certain tumors appear in adulthood.
